Linux Mint (3. 2- bit) - Free download and software reviews. Pros. Great in it's day. Cons. Version 1. 0 is now deprecated. The repository for it is no longer available. The current version as of date is 1. Windows XP. I've used it as my main system since 2. XP before it's support expired for Linux Mint after finding out how easy it was, and came with Firefox and Thunderbird too. ![]() Linux Mint 18.1 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2021. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make. We have updated download links of Microsoft Office 2010 trial version. We have also shared a new way to obtain a 60 days trial product key of Office 2010. Summary. Linux Mint 1. It's also been rated #1 at Distrowatch dot com, a clearing house for all linux versions, for almost two years running now. The closest to it now is Debian and Unbuntu. If you want to leave windows, or have an operating system for an older computer that won't run windows 8 or above, then Linux Mint is what you want. Reply to this review. Everything on my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge works automatically. The interface, Cinnamon, is intuitive to anyone who has used windows before. Customizing the look and feel of the desktop and panel is also quite simple. The included office software can create and handle microsoft office format documents as well as PDF's and more. ![]() The software center includes thousands of additional applications you can download for free to handle your pictures, play some games or do just about anything else you would like. Cons. My usb bluetooth adapter connects to remote speaker, but will not send the signal to the speaker. Bluetooth is one area where linux support is lacking still. ![]()
Most commercial software is not ported to work with linux. Although I was able to download Super. Tux. Kart from the software center, I am not able to play my favorite game on Mint. Summary. Mint is a well polished and very functional operating system that will do nearly anything I ask of it. It is very stable on my Lenovo laptop and is just a joy to use. And, I love that it does not ask me constantly "do you really want to do that" when I click on a button. Thank you to the Mint developers for all the hard work and for a great product. MATE desktop interface is clean, classic and a refreshing world away from the "app" and "tiles" world most OSes including Windows and the latest Ubuntu Desktop versions are moving to. It includes just about every single piece of software needed for daily computing "out of the box". Very little needs to be added except for any specialty applications you may use. Cons. Hey It's Linux and not Windows, so expect a little more DIY. It won't run Windows applications directly. Installing WINE provides an avenue for running certain applications, but it's hit or miss at best. However, installing Oracle VM Virtual. Box will solve the compatibility conundrum for most. You can install and run a full version of Windows (or any other OS) in a virtual machine that adeptly handles its task. Summary. Linux Mint has what it takes to become a serious OS contender. While the standard Ubuntu distributions continue to stray toward the more popular trends of the day, Mint keeps it fresh by adding new features but still keeping maximum usability. If I were a major OS software company, I'd keep an eye on this little bugger. Those of us who are becoming tired of what the big guys offering up these days might just decide a refreshing Mint is just what is needed. Reply to this review. Was this review helpful?(3) (0) Pros. Fast, no nonsense easy to use. A great way to learn Linux and become an expert. You can't go wrong and once you learn what you need, it will make you look like an expert. Cons. 1. ATI drivers were difficult to install. Some websites are not compatible with linux versions of firefox. Flash is an issue in terms of its behavior on chrome. If you run into trouble, you are at the mercy of the community. Summary. Great alternative OS, works great and free. Easy to Install. You can learn w/o messing up windows. Be prepared to learn and you will get better, if you want things to work and are not into computers then you should avoid linux based os especially if you have windows based applications for work such as Kareo. That has always been a big problem with Linux on laptops, but not anymore. It has a great look. Cons. No real easy way to install a ATI graphics driver, and as far as I know- no easy way to use an external display when connected using S- video port. I'm not, by any measure, a Linux expert, so maybe I'm just too novice to figure the display issue out. Summary. If you are an advanced Linux user- you will certainly like Mint. If you are a semi- advanced user- you will love it. If you have never used Linux ever before- you will be amazed, and probably converted. It requires almost NO knowledge of command- line interface, and a Windows or Mac user can easily jump right in and feel right at home. Actually- at a much better home. I am a Linux user for life because of Mint, and as soon as Netflix supports Linux, I'm done with Windows forever. Start using Linux and learn Chinese, or you will be left behind with Microsomethin'. Why, Unless you buy Microsoft Office Business 2. Windows Outlook 2. Outlook only comes with the "'business"", and then be sure you get a ""working"" key code.. That's my problem, I have 2. Office Home and Student, ( No Outlook ). So I ordered the Office Home and Business 2. Back Up disc just to get 2. Outlook. These were bought 4 days apart. I installed them, they worked great, until I did a Upgrade to Windows 7 Professional.. In the upgrade, I lost Outlook and had to do a complete Install. So now, after the install, Microsoft Business sends the 2. I called, I email, and searched Microsoft Support web sites. I tell them , I was told to use the 2. Home and Student when the Business Disc came. I did, I loaded and was excepted them. But today, just a little over a year later, they tell me I have no key code for the business office disc.. Go figure. I called and raised all kinds of h@ll with everyone who would listen. I could get out them. They would gladly sell me a "'new" key code for my Microsoft Office Business less than 2 years old, for a mere $9. So now I am looking into a transfer cable that will transfer Windows Outlook program, not so much worried about losing email addresses, I just need the program of Outlook.
